R.I.P. Sakuntella M – Kirkby 1953-1955: 10-8-2013

This afternoon around 4.00 pm Oi Pi Tek from the 1953-1955 batch of Kirkbyites smsed me to inform that M Sakuntella from his batch had passed on this morning.

Every time a Kirkbyite passes on, it leaves a void in all of us. It makes us rather sad to realise that this will be the inevitable truth that we have to put up with.

I tried calling those from the 1953-1955 batch of Kirkbyites to convey this sad news. Most of them have been informed. This camaraderie among this batch of Kirkbyites is remarkable. They have taken the trouble to inform their colleagues.

Punithavathy has been particularly close to Sakuntella from their school days in Seremban.  She had been visiting Sakuntella often ever since she became ill some time ago. And she was the one who called up her batch of Kirkby friends to convey this sad news. When I spoke to Punitha, she informed me that Sakuntella’s birthday was on 25 July and that she had rung her up to wish her.

Mohamed Che Noh told me that Sakuntella and he were classmates in Seremban and they were together in Kirkby.

Sakuntella was married to Victor Vijiarangam from the same batch. Victor attended the Penang Kirkby Reunion in 2010 but Sakuntella did not. As a result, I had never met Sakuntella but all her colleagues have fond memories of her.

The Obituary will appear in the Sunday Star tomorrow where funeral details will be announced.

Those wishing to contact Victor may find the following information helpful:

Yours in sorrow,
