My dear Kirkbyites,

I’m sorry to inform you that Marguerita Cheong Siew Kheng from the 1960-1961 batch passed away this morning, Sunday 12 February 2012. I received this sad news from Marguerita’s good friend, Susan Lim, at 10.16 pm.

I rang up her son, Edmond – 012-4727 109- and I was told that Marguerita had been ailing for some time. Yesterday she was admitted to the GH in KL and subsequently passed away this morning.

I last met her at the Malacca Kirkby Reunion in 2008. She seemed a little run down but otherwise she appeared to be coping well. Mary Siow informed me that Marguerita gave her a lift to Malacca in her new car.

She very much wanted to attend the Penang Kirkby Reunion in 2010. In fact she paid up and made arrangements to come to Penang with the dialysis machine for purifying her blood.  She wanted a suite for herself, her son and the machine.  She was a gutsy woman and I was very proud of her. But at the last moment, very regrettably,  she could not make it.

It was during this time that Poh Yuk and I had spoken to her on several occasions. Sadly, after that there was no more communication.

According to Susan Lim, Marguerita was looking forward to attending the PD Kirkby Reunion in June this year. Unfortunately, yet again she had to miss this one as well.

Cynthia Lim informed me that Marguerita had attended a lunch gathering in KL last year when Joseph and Maria visited Malaysia. Perhaps that must have been the last time she must have met up with some Kirbyites.

She leaves behind four sons and grand children to mourn her loss.

The wake is tonight and tomorrow (Sunday & Monday) at the St Ignatius Church, Petaling Jaya, along LDP. The funeral service will be at 10.00 am on Tuesday at the Church of Divine Mercy, Shah Alam.

Kindly inform the other Kirkbyites you are in touch with.

You may ring up Margurita’s son Edmond at 012-4727 109 for further details.

In sorrow,

Rama & Poh Yuk.
