R.I.P. Azhar bin Mohd Simin (Kirkby 1959-1960)

Once again, it is my sad duty to inform fellow Kirkbyites that Azhar bin Mohd Simin from the 1959-1960 batch of Kirkbyites had passed on. I was notified of this by Diana Tan from the same batch.

I contacted Azharís wife, Maimoonah binti Haji Samir who confirmed that Azhar passed away peacefully at the Pantai Hospital surrounded by his family members on 10-2-2013 at 3.30 pm. It was the first day of the Chinese New Year. His funeral took place the next day.

Azhar has not been well for some time.

Azhar was from my Block 8. Charles Gabriel, John Fernandez and Azhar were close friends then Ė now all three of them are gone. With Azharís demise, it brings the total of the departed from this batch of Kirkbyites to 29 out of which 8 are from Block 8.

I understand that Azharís first posting was at St Gabriels Secondary School. He went to MU in 1966 after which he was posted as the head of the SMK Kuala Kubu Bahru. He did his masters at the Penn State University after which he lectured in UKM. Later he obtained his Phd from the University of Michican. He retired as Associate Professor of Linguistics in 1994.

Azhar and Maimoonah attended the first Kirkby Reunion in Penang in 2004.

Those wishing to convey their sympathies may comtact Maimoonah at
